ACCESS Pediatric Hematology Oncology Career, Education, and Scientific Development (PHOCESD) Trainee Conference
ACCESS hosted the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Career and Education Skills Development (PHOCESD) Conference, a national event that brought together trainees, program directors and speakers from across Canada. The gathering served as a cornerstone for knowledge exchange, collaborative research, and professional development in the pediatric oncology community.
Over the course of three days, participants engaged in a rich program that included career development sessions, research presentations, expert panels, and patient advocacy discussions. Attendees heard from leaders in the field.
A central feature of the conference was the opportunity for trainees to present their own research and receive feedback from experienced clinicians, researchers, and peers.
The event also emphasized the importance of patient and family voices in shaping care models. Testimonials from Persons With Lived Experience (PWLE) highlighted the emotional and practical realities of childhood cancer, reinforcing the need for care approaches that prioritize compassion, communication, and collaboration.
By uniting professionals from across Canadian institutions, PHOCESD 2025 helped create a lasting sense of community among emerging leaders in the field. It offered a platform for exchanging innovative ideas and best practices, and further solidified Canada’s commitment to training the next generation of pediatric oncology specialists.
